In observance of significant occasions in the nation's recent past, the government has designated August 5 as "July Uprising Day" and August 8 as "New Bangladesh Day."

Meanwhile, in honour of the student who was slain by police firing in Rangpur during the mass uprising, July 16 has been designated as Martyr Abu Sayeed Day.

Separate circulars were released by the Cabinet Division on Wednesday, June 25.

After the previous government was overthrown after a widespread public and student movement, the interim government was established on August 8.

On the anniversary of the student-led movement from the previous year, a 36-member national committee was established to supervise the celebration of mass uprising days in July and August.

The committee will be chaired by Chief Advisor Prof. Muhammad Yunus.

To commemorate the anniversary of the July Uprising, a 36-day program will be held from July 1 to August 5.
