BNP Standing Committee member Salahuddin Ahmed has said that the country has been freed from fascism under the leadership of Tarique Rahman, the acting chairman of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP).
He stated, “The BNP is the destination of democracy, and Tarique Rahman is leading this party. Under his leadership, the country has broken free from fascist rule.”
He urged all nationalist democratic forces, including the BNP, to remain vigilant so that fascist powers can never rise again in Bangladesh. “To achieve that, we must advance the practice of democracy in the country,” he added.
Salahuddin made these remarks on Monday (9 June) while addressing a public gathering after inaugurating the newly constructed BNP office in Pekua Upazila of Cox’s Bazar.
He further stated that the BNP aims to establish a political and democratic government through a free and fair election as soon as possible. “Although the era of fascist one-party rule by the Awami League has ended, they are still conspiring both at home and abroad,” he warned. “They are attempting to destabilize the country through provocative statements. All democratic forces must unite to counter such conspiracies.”
The gathering was presided over by Bahadur Shah, president of Pekua Upazila BNP. Also speaking at the event were Shahjahan Chowdhury, president of Cox’s Bazar District BNP, and Advocate Shamim Ara Swapna, the general secretary, along with other party leaders.
Later, Salahuddin Ahmed visited the grave of Wasim Akram, a Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal leader who was the second martyr of the July uprising, and met with his family to offer condolences.
