On Sunday night, a college student was sexually assaulted by a bus driver and his helper aboard a "Maa Enterprise" bus in Habiganj's Nabiganj upazila.
However, bus driver Md. Sabbir Miah was apprehended by police and Bangladesh Army forces on the site. However, Liton Miah, the bus's attendant, ran away.
Sheikh Mohammad Kamruzzaman, the OC of Nabiganj Police Station, confirmed the occurrence and quoted locals as saying that the victim, a college student from Baniachang upazila, was on her way to her rural home.
She got on a 'Bilash Paribahan' bus on Sunday from Farmgate in Dhaka. It was intended that she would descend at Shayestaganj. She slept out, but she didn't get off, so the bus continued on to Sylhet.
Upon awakening, the student discovered that she was in Sylhet and decided to take the 'Maa Enterprise' bus from Nabiganj to Ajmiriganj. The student was by themselves in the bus when it arrived in Sherpur at around 10:30 PM, so the driver and assistant took advantage of the situation.
The student was violated.
A local hurried in after hearing a call for assistance and alerted the soldiers and police.
The victim and the bus driver were then turned over to Nabiganj Police by the army men.
